[vtkusers] Surface Normal

Greeting All,
I need to calculate the wall shear stress of a simple pipe. The output files format  from lsdyna are vtk but the"generate surface normal"  filter is disabled when I try to calculate the gradient of velocity on normal direction. Could you please advise me on this issue?
