Hi Sebastien,

Thanks for your views and comments...

"right this moment the version that you will install through the package-manager is 5.6"

The latest versions also available in the repositories. 
(5.9.0-1-experimental and 5.8.0-9-Unstable).
I hope that the latest versions will be added once they are released or 
stable.

If we use the packages then it will standardize the library locations 
and path configurations.
I hope that it will be very useful for VTK-Java developers and users to 
configure the applications.
