[vtkusers] basic understanding of the pipeline (SetInput vs. SetInputConnection)

Hello,

I don't fully understand the difference between SetInput and 
SetInputConnection. One thing is clear to me one takes a DataObject and 
the other an algorithm, but many filters offer both as input and output. 
   When should I use what? Advantages/Disadvantages?
