[vtkusers] how to find a ring around a hole

I have to question. I was wondering if anyone have used vtk to find
concentric ring around  a hole say 1 triangle, two tringle or three triangle
deep for a polydata grid? Could any one help me with that?
Sorry for the crude drawing on the top of the grid. As shown in the picture,
the grid would an made of triangles. The red line is an original edge that
we already know about. I have to find the rings (green and yellow) around
it. Do you know if there any method in vtk by which it can be done?
