Hello,

I have been trying for several days to get VTK to build with OS X with
no success. I used fink to install tcltk and Python (and all it's many
dependencies), then installed CMake 1.4.7. I've also tried with various
flavours of tcltk and have not had any luck. I either get missing
symbols that should be in the tcl lib, or errors in tk. Since each
attempt involves an hour or so of compilation, it is slow going when I
have to take a poke at this and see what happens approach.

I've noticed that probably 1 in 5 messages in this group are related to
getting vtk to build on one platform or another. I know I am not the
right person to say this as I have contributed 0 to this great effort
up to now, but my impression is that this is a sore spot. Coming from a
new user, it would be a huge help if there were some clear and
reproducible documentation on installation.

Please do not interpret this as complaining, and I am continuing to try
to get vtk working so I can evaluate it for my needs. I am as anxious
as anyone to move from building the tools to actually learning to use
the tools (and maybe contribute something as well).

Thanks,

Roch
