Error message after successful compilation?

Hi VTK-community,

after having successfully compiled the "old" version of VTK (2.4) on my
SGI - O2 I tried to copy and compile the example from the VTK-book on
page 67. This going well I however encountered an error running my
"Simple"-program:

mag at IBT46[/usr/people/mag/vtk/projects/simple] (4 %)> Simple

239882:Simple: rld: Fatal Error: attempted access to unresolvable symbol
in /sauvignon/people/mag/lib/libVTKGraphics.so: glXChooseVisual

mag at IBT46[/usr/people/mag/vtk/projects/simple] (5 %)>

As a newbe to VTK and programming I can only figure out that maybe the
contents of this dynamically linked library is lacking some / an
important content?! But can I do to get my little example to work???
