vtkContourFilter patented?

Hi 

How do you know if you have used patented
classes or not? For example, vtkContourFilter
is not listed in the patented classes, but does
it use the patented classes underneath? If one
wants to avoid using patented classes, has he
to check every classe he used, to make use there
is no implicit use of patented classes?
