[Paraview] PV data server without X

I'm thinking about using a data-server / render-server architecture for 
visualization on Blue Gene.    I've been fiddling with a BG port - its a 
bit problematic for several reasons - its necessarily a cross-compile and 
all linking must be done statically - and right now its foundering on a 
lack of X11 libraries.   Does anyone know if its possible to build a data 
server without X11 libs?  Or, if not, whether a data server built with 
stubbed X11 might be made to work?
