As you pointed out, ITK has already been integrated into ANALIZE 6.0.

Integration with other packages has also been done for
- VolView
- SCIRun
- LONI PipeLine
- Slicer
For instructions on how to integrate ITK into your own

ITK can be wrapped for Python, Tcl and Java. Although we are not
aware of anybody building ITK under VMS, we would guess that if
your have a recent gcc compiler there are good chances that you
will succeed building ITK.
You can use ITK for free in both commercial and academic software.
You are allowed to modify, distribute and even sell ITK if you wish.
That's the advantage of having a BSD license instead of the viral
GPL or LGPL licenses.
