[vtkusers] How to draw a checkered floor in VTK?

Unfortunately, this is not what I am looking for.
What I need is something like  this picture

No matter what I try I am not able to get this view.
Thank you again for your help. Hopefully one day I will learn enough not
only to take, but to give back to VTK users.
