As I understand it, FontConfig is not well supported on windows (at least
I've had trouble finding information about using it on that platform).

Custom fonts may still be loaded without using FontConfig (see my other
post to this list from a few minutes ago). The only drawback is that system
fonts will not be automatically discovered.
