How do you know?
Did you guess?
Why do you assume your guess is right?

I assumed  he wanted to understand why he achieved that results .

Understanding what he has done is crucial in understanding results he
achieved.
So my answer might helped him more than you think.

In fact, I am not only answered the question asked, but
encouraged him to think about the problem he is facing.

You guessed about what he wanted.
Now lets forget that your guess might be not correct.
In this case  he should have asked different question.
As for me when result is important understanding is even more important.

In this case the logical step after he received my answer was asking
another question or make a research.
So he would learn to ask correct question.
Nice skill as for me.

In any way there is no reason for comment you made.
It sounds like offense, so please keep such comments to yourself unless you
see cases when poster breaking mailing list rules.
