[vtkusers] graphics performance on mac os 10.8.3

No offense, but what kind of answer do you expect here?  You don't say what version of VTK, you don't say what GPU model worked well, and which worked poorly, you don't say exactly which VTK features you are exercising, etc.

I'd suggest you create a small test case that reproduces the problem, then run Instruments.app to see if can help you identify bottlenecks.
