[vtkusers] What are all vtkOpenGL* classes used for?

Hello,

In my knowledge, VTK is based on OpenGL. Then why is the need of all these
vtkOpenGL* class? I mean, where exactly these classes can be used? Can all
the examples using vtkRenderer & vtkRenderWindow will work with
vtkOpenGLRenderer & vtkOpenGLRenderWindow?
