[vtkusers] normals

If you want to do rigid registration you don't need normals. Only positions
are sufficient, but you need more than 3 points so you have an
overdetermined system. Once you have a solution, it will also give you not
just translation but also rotation.

But there are really a lot of registration methods, it should not be that
hard to pick a suitable one.
