[vtkusers] Loading Partial Volumes

I have 3D data set that I am visualizing using vtkVolume. One dimension of
the data is very large. I am reading
data from an array of pgm files.  I am then probing the volume using the
vtkImagePlaneWidget.
Reading in all the data makes the rendering very slow. I was wondering if
there is a smart way to read in partial data in the dimension that is very
large based on plane hitting the
edge of the partial data.
