[vtkusers] Converting Java Image <-> vtkImageData ?

Hello
Does anyone know a way to convert a Java image (Java.awt.Image) to a vtkImageData and the other way around? 
The only way we have is by using a PNGwriter which writes the vtkImageData to disk everytime for each image.
