[vtkusers] DICOM Histogram

Hi,

my program loads a set of DICOM files from a DICOM directory.
How can I retrieve the histogram for such a DICOM dataset?
It's no problem for me to load it when the dataset is loaded, so I could even use some external program, though obviously I'd prefer to do this via VTK directly.

Unfortunately I was unable to find any method that allows me to get the data I need. Do I need to use ITK/gdcm here?
