See my other e-mail for the current status.  As to why I was using  
the CVS source - when I first had a problem, the *first* helpful  
suggestion I got was "try using the CVS version".  Well...that was  
well intended - but not ultimately helpful.

I'm back with the "latest release", and still stuck with a linking  
problem (looking for the AWT library).
