[vtkusers] Render Window full screen mode blocks keyboard/mouse input.

Hello,
 
I'm having some difficulty with the vtkRenderWindow full screen mode under
Linux/X11. When I activate full screen mode, the window renders to full
screen correctly, however all keyboard/mouse interaction with the window
ceases, i.e. no further clicks/keypresses are received by the application,
or to the window manager. The application itself continues to run and the
window is rendered. The only way out is to switch to a text console and to
kill the application.
 
A web search turned up a few similar queries from as far back as 2003;
however, I could not find any discussion of work-arounds. Has anybody out
there experienced this, and managed to find a solution?
 
System details:
    VTK 5.0.
    Fedora Core 6 (kernel 2.6.18)
    Nvidia Quadro FX (official driver installed)
   
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
