[vtkusers] status of the EnSight reader?

I'm still struggling with importing Ensight data in paraview (2.4.4 and
2.9.9 March versions), but the problems seem to be VTK related and not
paraview specific.
I'm using the Ensight Gold format (ascii or C Binary) and have observed the
following issues:
1) In the case file, line breaks after "filename numbers:" and "time
values:" seem to cause problems. Is there any good workaround, other than
having all the values on one line?
2) The optional 'undef' keyword confuses the reader - at least the binary
reader.
3) using "nfaced" (ie, polyhedra) elements provokes a segfault. Is there a
good workaround for this?
4) The Ensight parts, which I would expect to appear as regions, are joined
to a single mesh. How can I convince VTK to keep all the mesh zones and the
boundary regions?
Is there an official or unofficial matrix of which EnSight features are
supported/planned/broken/unsupported?
