[vtkusers] performance of MIP mappers

Hi Michael,

I'm new with the volume texture mapper stuff - I thought though that
the mapper was internally resizing the volume to 256x256x? - so will
there be the same number of planes every time, regardless of actual
volume size? Also if I leave sample distance not-optional (use some
constant) - then do you think it would be possible to apply some
general modification rule to the opacity table?

Thanks,
Mark
