[vtkusers] What do "id" and "ids" stand for

Hi

I am just trying to understand how vtk works.
OOP is really new to me.
By the way I found that I must deal a lot with
VtkIdList class
I do not understand what Id and Ids mean in the general sense.

Particularly I have no idea what the SetId(id,i) does ??!!
Please help.
