you should prefer the packages build for mandriva. The ITK package in  
mandriva 2006 is not up to date, but you can safely use the one from the  
current cooker (mandriva devel).

 libitk-devel-2.4.1-2mdk.i586.rpm
 libvtk-5.0.0-0.20051206.6mdk.i586.rpm
 libvtk-devel-5.0.0-0.20051206.6mdk.i586.rpm
 vtk-data-5.0-0.20051206.1mdk.noarch.rpm
 vtk-doc-5.0.0-0.20051206.7mdk.i586.rpm
 vtk-examples-5.0.0-0.20051206.7mdk.i586.rpm
 vtk-test-suite-5.0.0-0.20051206.7mdk.i586.rpm
 
 i try to begin installing the VTK rpms with the command 
 urpmi libvtk*
 but i have some problems:
 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]# urpmi libvtk*
 Certains paquetages demandés ne peuvent pas être installés :
 libvtk-devel-5.0.0-0.20051206.6mdk.i586 (car devel(libtiff) est non satisfait)
 Continuer ? (O/n) n
 
 should i download other rpms?
 however, every thing was ok for ITK:
 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]# urpmi libitk*
