[vtkusers] VTK copyright. Could anyone tell me if I can adopt VTK or ITK to develop commercial application software freely except for patents

Yes, provided you follow the rules set out in the copyright for each
package: http://www.vtk.org/copyright.php and
http://www.itk.org/HTML/Copyright.htm.
