[vtkusers] Converter for Simple Legacy Format to XML

Hi,

I am thinking about porting my data files from the old serial format 
("simple legacy format") to the new XML format.
Is there a tool that helps to convert the files to XML or do I have to 
do this by hand?

Is it a good idea to use a vtkReader to read in the old formatted data 
file and use a vtkXMLWriter to produce the new file?
