You're going the wrong way, try installing vtk 5.0 from source, there
were many Mac bug fixes.

There were also some Cocoa event handling bugs fixed in 5.0, but I'm not
sure if that applies to Tcl, which I've never used.

Post back if 5.0 doesn't fix it.
