VTK with MangledMesa isn't that bad, actually. I've done it several times on
our SGI Irix machines here several times.
Sadly, I wasn't able to get the vtkXOpenGLOffScreenRenderWindow class to
work at all . And, of course, it requires OpenGL graphics hardware which
eliminates alot of our systems in-house.
If desired, I could write up instructions on how to get VTK & Mesa 6.2.1 to
play nice together (On Irix at least, I imagine it's very similar for other
systems)
