I can't speak for others, but for us the streaming functionality is
coming to be very important. VTK4.4 doesn't have a lot of
streaming-aware filters, and one "bad" filter ruins your whole
pipeline.

The CVS is currently MUCH better at this, and so with large+pieced
datasets we can actually approach reasonable performance.
