Hi!
In our lab we've got results with rms less than 1mm (from 0.86mm to 
0.44mm) without any modifications of the vtk class . your error can be 
from some resources:
1. the accuracy of your laser scanner.
2. the method of you icp - rigid-body, similarity, or affine.
3. the relationship between the model and your range volume before start 
the icp.
