[vtkusers] does vtk installation create lib and include directories?

I'm installing vtk in order to use some other program (HiVision). From what 
I gather from searching, vtk should create a directory lib and another 
called include. I need to find theses directories in order to install 
HiVision.  I'm running Linux (RedHat 9), installing the latest official 
release of VTK (4.2).
