[vtkusers] starting vtk

hi
I am new to VTK
I am having little trouble to getting started.
I downloaded the VTK package and extracted it to folder VTK that sits on my desktop
I also downloaded the CMake as was said in the readme file in VTK
I created workspace and new project and put there files from the Examples\Tutorial\Step1
what should i do next?
I am assuming that the folder vtk should be in someother place than the desktop
Any help highly appreciated.
