Ben,

Many thanks. I suspected that this would be the logic of the procedure. I
flagged this issue up to those at VTK around a year or more ago and I
supposed that I hoped that somebody closer to the code (and infinitely
better placed than I) would have done it in the interim (that is created
such a filter as part of the VTK library).

I will hold off doing it myself just a little longer in case somebody has in
fact done it.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

I dealt with this exact issue (but for tetrahedral elements) by attaching
the original element number to the cells before they went into the cutter
and then adding a filter after the cutter that "merged" all of the triangles
with identical original element numbers into polygons. This works, but I
cannot provide source for a variety of reasons.

Ben

Dear All,
I am continuing on my quest to create a useful interface. In regards Berk's
suggestion (many thanks) - I am still using 4.0 so I will now convert to 4.2
(no point ingoing to 4.4?) and check out the vtkStreamTracer.

Another issue I would like to solve is using a vtkCutter. I currently create
a cut through my FE mesh using a vtkCutter, but when I create a wire mesh
(to display the edges of the elements as they are cut), I get the
triangulated vtkCutter surface and not the outline of the cut hexahedra.

Any ideas?

Jim
