[vtkusers] transforming 3D DATA in 2D IMAGE: A graphical representation ?

Hello users!!!

I'm a student currently doing my final project on visualization 3D of the brain. I'm trying to graphically represent the process/ main steps for transforming 3D DATA in a 2D image.

I followed the ideas developped in the book 'the visualization toolkit, an object oriented approach to 3D graphics, 3rd edition' (which is really great source of informations):

- visualization techniques = transformation of 3D data in GRAPHICS PRIMITIVES (= graphical data)

- computer graphics = rendering = process of converting graphical data into an image.

I see two problems:
* volume rendering techniques transform 3D data directly to the final image without transformation to an intermediate geometric representation (graphics primitives)
* the representation would imply that we could have a visualisation algorithm like marching cubes and then a volume rendering ?

Somebody can help me in improving that representation ? Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,
Nicolas DUMONT.
