It seems 1. should be true for anyone who tries the script.

If I try to open the test.vti file (created by the extractVoiBreakage.py 
script in my previous posting) with VolView 2.0 patch 4, VolView crashes 
with an "Application Error: The function at <address> tried to acces 
memory at 0x00000000.  Memory could not be read."
