[vtkusers] Need even more verbose CMake output

How can I get CMake to spew out the actual compile line(s) that, 
unfortunately, produces only...

  Compiling VTK cmake commands -failed

...on my system?  I've tried putting -v, -verbose, --verbose, 
and -DCMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE:BOOL=TRUE after the cmake command, to no 
avail.
