[vtkusers] can't display 2D text on SGI Onyx 350

hi guys,

i've successfully built vtk on my sgi onyx 350 (irix 6.5.24), 
and everything seems fine. but when i ran the examples, i found that
it couldn't display 2d texts created by vtkActor2D and vtkTextMapper.
none of the examples works while the 3d texts created by vtkVectorText 
works fine.  

does anyone come across the same problem?

i am using the vtk 4.4 latest release.
