[vtkusers] how to use vtkXYPlotActor?

Hello, there,

I would like to visualize (x,y) using vtkXYPlotActor
where x is the day and y is the average temperature 
for the day. 

Can anyone give me some suggestion of how to do it?
The sample code for vtkXYPlotActor is not that helpful
to me. I tried the following pipeline, but it failed.

vtkPoints--->vtkPolyData--->.....->vtkXYPlotActor
