Have you looked at and tried to succesfully
build and run the example project in 
VTK/Examples/GUI/Win32/vkBorland ?

I have been using BCB5 with the render window
component for nearly two years now, in many
different apps, without problem, although
I only build shared libs/dlls and not static.
