I've seen this happen too but haven't had the chance to see whats
wrong. My suspicion is that the vtkXOpenGLRenderWindow is not doing
the "right thing" somewhere. Maybe its not checking for DISPLAY at
all? I don't know enough low level X to figure it out easily. :(
