Hello Folks-
The open-source Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) Version
1.0 is ready for immediate download. Please visit
http://www.itk.org/HTML/Download.php to obtain the software. (This site has
a web page that gathers information to help developers and project managers
understand the needs of the ITK community. For those who have completed
this form before, you should be able to jump directly to the download site
if you remembered to bookmark it.) You may also wish to obtain the software
via CVS access, look at ftp://www.itk.org/pub/itk/GettingStarted.txt for
instructions on obtaining the software via CVS. Make sure that you use the
recent release of CMake (version 1.4.6) available from www.cmake.org to
manage the ITK compilation process.
Changes to the software from the previous 0.7 release include a large
number of changes related to stability, style, and correctness; the
addition of several new algorithms; support for the Borland compiler;
support for MacOSX Jaguar; support for the MS .NET compiler; addition of
install targets on Unix; and improvements to CABLE (including a itktcl
executable); const correctness; refactoring of the iterator hierarchy;
reworking the build process to consolidate the binaries and libraries into
a single directory; and the addition of several examples.
ITK was created from the generous funding of The US National Library of
Medicine at the National Institutes of Health and sponsoring organizations
(see http://www.itk.org/HTML/Sponsors.htm) with Dr. Terry Yoo of NLM/NIH
serving as project manager. Six prime organizations, three corporate
(Kitware, GE Global Research, and Insightful) and three academic
(University of North Carolina, University of Utah, and University of
Pennsylvania) created the software. (See http://www.itk.org/HTML/About.htm
for more information.) The goals for the project include the following:
· Support the Visible Human Project.
· Establish a foundation for future research.
· Create a repository of fundamental algorithms.
· Develop a platform for advanced product development.
· Create conventions for future work.
· Grow a self-sustaining community of software users and developers.
Learn more at www.itk.org. Enjoy ITK !!!
