[vtkusers] compiling vtk application on linux

Hi,
   Just a basic question : if I only call vtk method to calculate but
don't need to display anything(using actor as the other model's input),
do I need to link the libraries such like -lGL , -lX(whatever) ?? My
compiling was failed so I am thinking about those libraries are needed
to let vtk running..... any idea ?? Thanks in advance.
