[vtkusers] Inconsistent rendering times

I'm using the nightly build of VTK with BCB 5.0.  I have written a
BCB component to provide similar functionality to vtkImageViewer.  My
files are raw format containing volumetric data.

The problem I've been having only occasionally is that when I setup a
pipeline and then update the screen, it sometimes takes a few minutes to
get out of the Render() call, while other times it takes only a few
seconds, as it should.  Has anyone ever experienced varying rendering
times like this, and does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can
eliminate them?
