In case you want debs for VTK under potato let me know. I can mail you
a diff (but I build it with jdk-1.1.8). I have not yet released the
stuff because I am waiting for the 3.2 release (BTW when is that
due?). Once it is released I plan to give the debs to a friend of
mine who is a maintainer. The vtk debs should then show up in woody.

In any case here is part of the user.make I use:

JDKHOME=/usr/lib/jdk1.1
JAVAC=${JDKHOME}/bin/javac
JAVA_CLASS_HOME=${VTK_OBJ}/java/
JAVAH=${JDKHOME}/bin/javah
JAVA_INCLUDES=-I${JDKHOME}/include -I${JDKHOME}/include/linux
JAR=/usr/bin/jar

Before you build export the following env variable from the top level
of your source dir.

$ export CLASSPATH=.:/usr/lib/jdk1.1:`pwd`/java:`pwd`/java/vtk

Doing just the above should work fine.
