[vtkusers] Building VTK Examples on OSX 10.1

Hello,
I am having a problem building the examples for 
VTK on Darwin. I set BUILD_EXAMPLES to ON
when I ran cmake, but the examples never got built.
So, I went to the directory VTK/Examples/Rendering/Cxx
and ran cmake, and then make.

The linker failed with messages:

/usr/bin/ld: table of contents for archive:
/usr/local/lib/vtk/libvtkRendering.a is out of date;
rerun ranlib(1) (can't load from it)

etc for all of the VTK libraries.
