There are also some subdivision surfaces... Loop and Butterfly

Here's my 0.02 worth...  just as VTK is not a numerical linear algebra pkg,
neither is it a (CAGD) modeling pkg.  However, I see in the 4.0 classes that
there are ruled surface and swept surface classes.
