"About Windows" shows this:

  Version 5.0 (Build 2195 Service Pack 1)

I cannot find any mention of this memory situation anywhere,
so I assume it may only be occurring on multi-cpu machines.
I sent a note to Microsoft, and described my problem to the
OpenGL gamers at an http://www.2cpu.com forum. Perhaps few
folks use the Task Manager to check such things? May be that
those playing OpenGL games only launch a few OpenGL processes
between reboots... thus simply do not notice that the committed
system memory rises so dramaticly?
To check if you get the same problem, open the Windows Task
Manager and see whether the number for "Total" rises by 4MB
after any OpenGL app exits (e.g. running Vtk TCL scripts)

   -- Commit Charge (K) ------
    Total 142,000 <-- committed / lost
    Limit 1,263,528 <-- includes swapfiles
    Peak 250,492 <-- peak used
   ---------------------------

Looking forward to your results!
