graphics card under linux ?

Hi, I don't think that there is any genuine reliable OpenGL card for
hardware rendering under Linux, but the recommended card for general
X-windows use under Linux is Matrox Millenium II G200/G400. You have to
recompile the kernel for the best results, and once you do this it's very
quick on changing from one virtual desktop to another virtual desktop. It
cannot do hardware rendering for VT output, but it works well for shifting
other X-windows processing to hardware acceleration -- I presume this will
take X-windows background load off of the CPU which should make Mesa run
faster in the CPU. 

Or you could try to go with the Mesa-Glide libraries which work well under
any operating system _except_ Linux. I would personally go with a card
that takes the load off of "X" and will thus allow the CPU to work harder
generating display to send to the card, as opposed to trying to get the
card to do all of the rendering, but be unable to pass it directly to
display.
