MacOs platform and vtk

Hi, Denis,
There are very few obstacles to getting vtk running on a Mac, and it has
been done in the past. However, one of the obstacles is the 29 char
filename limit in the Mac HFS filesystem. (have a look at how many of
the vtk source filenames are longer!) This has now been dealt with, but
the finder will still not let you use long names. OSX has solved all
that nicely by using a BSD kernel, but currently has no (well only for
Voodoo cards) accelerated graphics.

There are only a few vtk classes that need to be redone on the Mac
(vtkWin32*), and doing that is quite easy.

Personally, I am waiting until OSX (non-Server) is released, and then
will do those classes to deal with their new window manager. It depends
on what you are doing, but if sheer graphics performancs is a necessity,
being limited (currently) to the Rage128 chipset is a problem. If you
are keen on doing neat user interface things with a minimum of fuss,
using ProjectBuilder under OSX will be a godsend. And perhaps a more
capable graphics chipset will be supported under the AGP2x and coming
AGP4x architecture on the new G4s.

Let me know if you are interested in participating.
