Implicit function

Dear people

If I'm subclassing vtkSphere to produce vtkFresnelEllipsoid which is just
an elllipse oriented around Tx and Rx points. I can

a) Create an ellipse from scratch by doing f(x,y,z) for ellipse (i.e no
subclassing)
b) Transform sphere by supplying vtktransform to vtkSphere

if I do b), should I worry about function gradient or will this be taken
care of.

There ought to be an addditonal term in the 2(x-x0), 2(y-y0) etc etc bits
but will this be absorbed by the transformation? I should know the answer
but I'm confused.
